AALHE December Webinar: Assessing the Core: Data Matters
December 7, 2022  @ 3:00 PM (Eastern)

Louisiana State University (LSU) began its general education redesign in 2017 to bring it more in line with current best practices. A faculty-led process unfolding over a six-year period yielded a very strong framework. The faculty committee refined the focus of the proposed curriculum to a set of ‘proficiencies’ that would serve as a checklist of the attributes the institution desired of its graduates. An assessment plan, using the VALUE Rubrics, built on the principle of minimizing the faculty workload was then established by a separate subcommittee, and the vetting of courses was initiated under the new framework, called the Integrative Learning Core (ILC). This dialogue session will share our approach to redesigning general education, how we moved from compliance to quality in data collection and provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss why data matters and how it can be used to improve curriculum and instruction.

Presenter: Dr. Tara Rose Director of Assessment at Louisiana State University

The webinar will be conducted via Zoom. Dr. Rose will present for ~60 minutes and will be available to answer questions afterwards.
