NEean Webinar: Applying Indigenous Knowledge Systems for Equity-Centered Assessment
Wednesday, August 11, 2021
Category: Other Events
Higher education, and thus assessment, have been influenced by colonizing practices built upon dominant Western paradigms of knowledge creation. This colonization has minimized non-dominant ways of knowing and contributed to inequitable outcomes for students. To center equity in assessment practice, Indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) can be integrated to ground assessment in an ethos of equality and liberation. In this session, presenters will argue for the adoption of IKS in assessment practice. In doing so, they will articulate the tenets and characteristics of IKS, describe the benefits of using IKS, and lead a discussion regarding ways to apply IKS to each step in the assessment cycle. Participants will leave with concrete knowledge and applicable strategies to use in their own work. For more information, visit NEEAN.org.
