Emerging Dialogues Guidelines for Publication

We accept submissions on a rolling basis; finalized articles will be published on a semi-annual schedule:

  • Articles must be submitted by April 1st and October 1st annually to be reviewed and published within each cycle. 

Typically, the double-blind peer review process takes 2-4 weeks. Additional revisions may be needed to finalize an article for publication.

AALHE’s Emerging Dialogues values timely and quality articles that:

  • advance the conversation on student learning assessment;
  • promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity in higher education through culturally responsive and socially just assessment; and
  • assist our readers in their current practice by providing concrete and practical examples.

We encourage people to submit both formal and informal articles, including case studies, formal responses to previously published pieces, personal narratives or op-eds, innovative ideas, current challenges, or translation of conference presentations to publication format.

Guidelines for Publication:

Submissions should:

  • Be under 1500 words (longer pieces may be considered)
  • Have a clear theme or message
  • Use APA style guidelines with grammar and punctuation appropriate for publication
  • Be readable and consumable articles
  • Be targeted toward assessment practitioners

All articles submitted to Emerging Dialogues will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Reviewers provide constructive and supportive feedback with recommended revisions.

To submit an article for consideration, complete the Emerging Dialogues submission form, which includes the following information:

  • Email Address for primary author
  • Authors' Name(s), Title(s)/Position(s), Institution/Organization
  • Article Title
  • A 2-3 sentence abstract for publication
  • Keywords/Tags (suggest 2-3)
  • A completed guideline checklist
  • An editable document attachment
