Explore Old Town Alexandria, founded over 275 years ago as a bustling port town along the Potomac River. Follow in the footsteps of George Washington, who spent much of his life in the city. Visit the sites where American presidents once gathered, including 18th-century taverns and a historic church that has been active since before the American Revolution. Tour stops will include iconic locations like The Carlyle House, Gadsby’s Tavern, Captain’s Row, George Washington’s Townhouse, and historic Christ Church where we will view the box-shaped pew that George Washington purchased in 1773! A 1.25-mile leisurely walk winds through the heart of Alexandria’s Old and Historic District, which is the third oldest historic district in the United States, established in 1946. On this tour, professional guides will lead you along the brick and cobblestone streets while telling vivid stories, fascinating anecdotes, and uncovering hidden gems that bring Alexandria's past to life.
